Welcome to Sunflower Songs!

If you asked me three years ago if I wanted to start a private practice, my answer would have been a quick, “No, I don’t really think I want to be on my own like that.”

A lot has changed over the past three years, and creating this practice has been my newest dream project. In my time as a board-certified music therapist here in North Carolina, I have seen firsthand the impact that music therapy can have on this community. I have a heart to serve others and connect with them in meaningful ways through music, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to do that in new ways.

Sunflower Songs Music Therapy came out of a desire to continue my work as a music therapist with my own authentic style while remaining grounded in all I’ve learned throughout my education and clinical work. As a graduate student, I wanted something flexible to ensure that my clinical work, education, and personal life stayed in balance. I’m a firm believer that self-care is a necessity to care for other wells, though I’ll also be the first to admit that it’s really hard!

While I’m certainly not the only music therapist offering private practice services in Charlotte, NC, I’m hopeful that my presence here will be an addition to the work of the other incredible music therapists in the area. Each of us has something unique to offer in our approach to providing holistic support to our clients. I may be new to this type of practice, but I’m proud to have experience working with individuals across various backgrounds and supporting them in holistic ways that value their identities and stories. My work in the field of music therapy has equipped me to connect with individuals and build rapport through empathy and unconditional regard for my clients. I love to be creative and connect with clients in the moment through music.

My biggest hope in this endeavor is to create connection and make each person I cross paths with feel seen and valued for who they are. Music is part of being human, and each of us deserves a chance to thrive in creativity and community.

However you found me and my new little business, I’m so happy you’re here! This blog will feature information about music therapy, experiences as a clinician, and more to advocate for this profession that I love so much.

Keep blooming,

Gabi
